Blink and You'll Miss It
Hey folks, I’ve been dealing with more edits for Infinite Archive, and they’re stressing me out. But I did want to get a note out to y’all to tell you I’m not dead.
TL;DR- buy my book (plz). Then I want to spread the word on crowdfunding some cool games.
I had an interesting discussion with Tim, my assistant, last week. I said I had worked so hard on this book, lots of rewrites, etc, that I was pretty sure it was terrible. I remember being in a ton of self doubt every time I had to go back to the drawing board. And he told me what I tell people all the time, emotions aren’t reality. How I feel about this book has no bearing on what people will think about it.
It’s annoying how often I do not listen to my own advice.
So! My novella The Ophelia Network comes out tomorrow! I wrote this in 2021 for an Audible Original, and after a year I could publish it in ebook and physical book. Argyll Productions (the same people who do the physical copies of Ursula Vernon/T Kingfisher self pubbed books) said they would love to publish this one, so we went off and running.
I put a lot of work into this. I’d been wanting to write “Blues Clues meets 1984” for some time, and I finally got to do it.

Blues Clues meets 1984 in this thrilling novella from Mur Lafferty!
The fascist government controls the Internet, and communication between the resistance is difficult, but some have a plan. It involves a children’s television show with puppets, codes, and the friendly AI assistant everyone has in their houses. The only problem is, our friendly host, Bailey, is oblivious to what his show is transmitting.
Buy it where books are sold! Tell a friend! (Audio still available through Audible.)
I was gobsmacked to see that my book Station Eternity was named in this list of Best SciFi of All Time, which had me Best SciFi of All Time. Which had me rather stunned.

If you want to look at some crowdfunding, there’s the overwhelmingly popular So You’ve Met A Thousand Year Old Vampire, a follow up to the solo RPG Thousand Year Old Vampire. That crowdfund ends in 8 days, but I can say with certainty that this game will likely be as gorgeous as the last game.
Here’s a game that needs a boost: Bad Heroes: A Beat-Em Up Dating Game. A friend of mine from my MFA program is doing the writing on this game, and she is an excellent writer. I’ve backed it, and take a quick look to see if it tickles your fancy.

I am not in the best headspace right now, and I have to keep telling myself that emotions are not reality. Just cause I feel lousy one day doesn’t mean my writing and podcasts are garbage. The work remains the same. The only thing that fluctuates is me.
I have a few podcasts in the can that need touching up and posting, but I’m not sure how many I will get to before I turn the book in. The next week and a half are going to be challenging. Bear with me.
The hard thing for me is promoting myself when I feel like this. I can make myself do work (did a lot of writing today, actually) but when it comes to promotion, I freeze. So thanks for reading, or listening, and being patient with me.
See you soon!
Mur
