Welcome to August, a very busy month

Welcome to August, a very busy month
Info about Mur's Aug 6 event at Quail Ridge Books, 7pm

I think I'm still brain tired. I finished a deadline on Thursday and have been trying to do some admin to refocus, but I don't think I'm quite there yet. I joined a relatively inexpensive "work club" (coworking space with no dedicated offices, etc) last week. Today was the grand opening, and I stupidly went after lunch. Every seat was full. Every one. I know it's going to be like the gym, where some people will stop coming once the newness wears off, and I would be luckier if I got there earlier, but it was a little disappointing still.

AUGUST PLANS (so many plans!)

You will begin to see a LOT of items on my Patreon shop. Not only will my archives be going there as I complete them, but I'm putting my self pub novellas up there too (gradually). We are starting this week with my novella, Marco and the Red Granny. In the future there will be more podcast archive collections, more novellas, and maybe some new fiction too.

Upcoming ISBW episodes: interviews with Dan Kois, Sarah Gailey, Chinaza Bado, and Tim Chawaga! Also watch for the 20th anniversary episode from Worldcon! I will be pinning down some old interviewees at WorldCon for some catching up, too.

Note- you can watch most of those interviews above live on Twitch at 3pm EDT:

  • 8/7: Sarah Gailey
  • 8/21: Chinaza Bado
  • 8/28: Tim Chawaga

(Ditch Diggers is still on the back burner until Ursula stops globetrotting.)

Book reminder

Have you gotten your copy of Infinite Archive yet? It has more murder! More sentient ships! And so many cats! You can order a signed copy from Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill, btw. I'll even personalize it!

Author Websites! I recently became an affiliate of WriterWebsite.com, which is a web service specifically for authors. If you want a clean site to promote yourself, giving help every step of the process, you really should check them out.

Every once in a while I will feature another creator on Patreon that I'm supporting. Any hardcore podcast fan should recognize Saturday Morning Media, run by Grant Baciocco, who you might remember from The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd. Grant probably does more podcasts than I do. Check him out!

What I'm reading

A bunch of ARCs I can't talk about yet!

What I'm watching

I was never much of an Asimov fan. I fully accept that a lot of the classics were high on concept, but their writing style didn't appeal to the child Mur. I never got into many of them***. (yeah, I know, you wanna fite me, whatever. I liked some of the Bradbury I read. Does that count?) So I wasn't too excited about Foundation. But I watched a few episodes with my husband and saw women and people of color in the stories, which I didn't think Asimov thought to include in his books. I realized I enjoyed it but had no idea what was really going on. So I started watching it with him this past weekend, and yeah, it's amazing.

Lucky for me, we had just seen a major reveal in the third season (I didn't realize how much of a holy shit moment it was because I didn't have the context) so some of the odd actions of certain folks in the first season now made more sense. We're about six episodes in on Season One now.

***Although now the name of my favorite comic/book store in college makes more sense: Second Foundation.

Aside- whereas authors used to dream of any film/tv option, I think a lot of SF writers are now just dreaming of an Apple TV+ deal. They really know how to do science fiction.

HEY- thanks for reading this far. In my thanks, I am making I Should Be Writing Season One available to everyone for free! This won't last long (2 weeks!), so check out podcasts from the early days, when we made them by banging rocks together!
